Stree 2: Cast and new faces, behind the scenes, everything you need to know about the horror-comedy
Stree 2: With the Independence Day fervor setting in, movie enthusiasts have it coming now with ‘Stree 2’ on its way. The follow-up to the 2018 blockbuster Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, has comedy and supernatural in store. The sequel to the much-loved horror comedy brings back Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles; needless to say, this one promises a lot of screaming.
Cast and new faces
Rajkummar Rao reprises his role as hero Vicky, who is meeting the mysterious woman for the first time Shraddha Kapoor too features in the promo video, and she awaits to surprise us as well because her real character is not revealed anywhere. They will be joined by the first part’s cast members — Pankaj Tripathi (Rudra), Abhishek Banerjee(Jana), Aparshakti Khurana(Bittu) and Sunita Rajwar( Jana’s mother).
But ‘Stree 2’ will not only bring the old beings back on screen. The lead role of Shama is played by Tamannaah Bhatia. Even though she was seen in cameo role as well with a song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ being pictured soon after the number that has Saraang — seeing her playing lead part of sorts, is pretty much suggested through this promo which could even have faint undertones to it suggesting inherent friction and possibly another supernatural discomfort on way!
The story
Just like the original film, as ‘Stree 2’ goes all-in with its supernatural plot points, something weird starts happening in Chanderi town. In this one, the town is haunted by a monster known as Sarkatte who comes at night and kidnaps women from it. With the residents living in mortal terror, Vicky (Bittu to his family), Rudra, Jaan and Shraddha Kapoor’s nameless lass decide how best they can prevent this latest evil.
Validation and runtime
Stree 2 has reportedly been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate but parental discretion is advised as it ‘might not be suitable for children under 12’. It is 149 minutes, and the movie releases on AUGUST 15. The CBFC has also suggested some small modifications, such as blurring the names of a few famous personalities and muting references to national monuments.
Behind the scenes
However, the production of ‘Stree 2’ was a roller-coaster ride. But post the first part’s super success, writer-director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (Raj and DK) had a fallout with producer Dinesh Vijan. The conflicts were regarding 1 debt, and MoU rights → ‘women’ But eventually it got resolved on an amicable note because again all the copyright and intellectual property rights of that film was with producer only. While Raj and DK wrote the screenplay for the first film, ‘Stree 2’ is written by Niren Bhatt who has also co-written with them on ‘Bhediya’ and ‘Munjya.’
Release Date and Box Office Clash
August 15, 2024 will see ‘Stree 2’ clashing with other big releases including John Abraham and Sharwari’s ‘Vedaa’, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein & Vikram starrer Thangalan. Given the rush, it is going to be difficult for ‘Stree 2’ to make space at theatres but Stree proved its mettle with tremendous love from the audience last year.
