Bhiwani: The reported suicide of a Dalit female student in Loharu, Bhiwani, has deeply alarmed Renu Bhatia, the chairperson of the Haryana Commission for Women.

When Bhatia visited the institution, she discovered that the owner’s and the principal’s assertions were inconsistent. In 2024, tuition costs for July were eliminated, presumably as part of an election campaign, according to students she talked with.

“The fact that a girl killed herself is very disheartening…I visited the college in Loharu today and had conversations with the owner and principal. Their assertions were different…According to the college students I talked with, in 2024, the July tuition was eliminated. It seemed to be related to the campaign for the election. If the college principal contacted the dead student’s family, it should be looked into.

Bhatia emphasized the need of conducting a comprehensive inquiry, namely to determine if the college administrator made contact with the family of the dead student. On the day of her death, the girl had told her grandma that she was not permitted to take a test. Bhatia suggested looking through Rahul’s phone logs as well.

“The student informed her grandma that she was not permitted to take the test on the day she committed herself. She suggested that Rahul’s phone records be examined as well.

Bhatia recommended that a senior-level committee take on the matter in order to guarantee an objective probe since local authorities may be swayed. The transfer of the case to the state criminal branch will be officially requested by the Haryana Commission for Women.

Since local authorities may be under pressure in these situations, a senior-level committee needs to look at the situation. According to Renu Bhatia, the Haryana Commission for Women will draft a letter requesting that the matter be transferred to state crime.

Notably, the Dalit girl who was supposedly “pressed” to pay for her college education apparently committed suicide. Additionally, the college officials reportedly coerced the girl into having a sexual connection with the college director’s son because of the “unpaid college fees.”

Hanuman, the father of the accused Rahul, was also taken into custody by Bhiwani Police in connection with the suicide case.

According to the statement from the release, the District Deputy Commissioner of Bhiwani established a committee to look into the accusations made against the institution.

The committee was composed of the district higher education official of Bhiwani, the sub-divisional officer of Loharu, and the deputy superintendent of police for Loharu.

Haryana Minister Gaurav Gautam said on Thursday that the state government will administer justice and that an investigation into the matter should be conducted.

“We support Krishan Singh Bedi’s statement,” added Gaurav Gautam. It is unacceptable if members of Congress are complicit in such an act. An investigation needs to be conducted. Justice will be served by the government.
