Speaking to the media here, Dimple Yadav said, “The Samajwadi Party will secure a very good victory and a message will go out from Milkipur to the entire country and state.”

Awadhesh Prasad’s son, Ajit Prasad, has been put up by the SP for the by-elections. Chandrabhan Paswan is the candidate put forth by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Awadhesh Prasad, an MP for the Samajwadi Party, had expressed confidence in his party’s ability to win the Mikipur by-elections, stating that the electorate has fully decided to create history by electing the SP.

Votes will be tallied on February 8 after the February 5 by-election in Milkipur. The Congress, an ally of the Samajwadi Party’s INDIA bloc, has declared its support for the SP candidate and has chosen not to run a candidate from Milkipur.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP lost in Uttar Pradesh as the INDIA coalition took 43 seats, led by the SP with 37 seats, while the NDA alliance was held at 36 of the 80 seats.

However, the Samajwadi Party only won two of the nine seats up for grabs, while the BJP witnessed a comeback in the November assembly by-elections last year, winning six seats and one for its partner, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RJD).

On Thursday, SP leader Dimple Yadav also discussed the stampede during Maha Kumbh and expressed her sympathies to the families of those who lost loved ones.

“This is a really sad and regrettable situation. We send our sympathies to the families who have lost a dear one. We ask God to speed up the recovery of those in the hospital. We want all the remains returned to their families and we want the government to raise the compensation sum,” Yadav added.

Authorities in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, have promised that more preparations would be made for the next Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan) on February 3 in the aftermath of the deadly disaster during the Maha Kumbh.

Political leaders expressed their sympathies after a stampede during the current Maha Kumbh, one of the biggest gatherings in the world, happened early on Wednesday, killing 30 people and injuring dozens more.

said to the most recent information, the pre-dawn stampede claimed the lives of at least 30 people and wounded 60 more, said Vaibhav Krishna, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kumbh. Twenty-five corpses have been identified, he added.

The occurrence happened on the auspicious day of Mauni Amavasya, which also happens to be the day of the Second Shahi Snan, when millions of devotees congregated at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers to take a holy plunge.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar informed ANI on Thursday that the state government has established a judicial investigation committee to look into the Maha Kumbh stampede. We are here today to talk about how to properly celebrate Basant Panchami ‘Amrit Snan’ and how to improve the amenities.”
