Shreyas Iyer targeted ‘Rahane and Pujara’ from across the border

Shreyas Iyer’s Duleep Trophy campaign has been difficult, and the pressure is only getting worse after his most recent performance. Iyer was left off the roster for the next Test series against Bangladesh after a depressing defeat to India C in the first game, despite making a fast half-century in the second innings following failure in the first.

It seemed that the second-round encounter might be a turning point in his Test career, but Iyer was bowled for a first-ball duck rather than using his bat to make a statement. To compound his misery, he was dismissed as soon as he walked out to the crease wearing sunglasses, an uncommon sight in cricket.

Iyer was hoping to establish himself in the Test team, so his departure couldn’t have come at a worse moment. Additionally, Basit Ali, a former player for Pakistan, wasn’t too fond of Iyer’s strategy so far. Basit described Iyer, a 29-year-old hitter, as “lucky” and said he had no “hunger” for red-ball cricket.

I find it saddening to watch him as a cricketer. Your focus isn’t on the game if you are going out in ahead. and the red-ball game in particular. He’s an IPL winner, he’s got two century in the World Cup, and he ought to have scored a hundred or two hundred runs here. Basit said, “Iyer is really fortunate that Pujara and Rahane aren’t competing in the Duleep Trophy.

“Iyer’s appetite for red-ball cricket has diminished.” All he wants is limits. It should be your first priority. No, it doesn’t happen that way if he is thinking he is like Virat Kohli after making two hundreds in the World Cup. I apologize to Indian fans of Iyer, but I wouldn’t have included him in the Duleep Trophy at all if I had been India’s selection. He does not value the game.

Iyer’s exhilarating 2024

2024 has been a year of extreme highs and lows for Shreyas Iyer. The 29-year-old batsman made an incredible recovery after being passed over for BCCI contracts earlier in the year because of his seeming lack of availability for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.

He was crucial to Mumbai’s victory in the Ranji Trophy, and his leadership helped the Kolkata Knight Riders win their third IPL championship.

Iyer returned to the international spotlight during the August ODI series against Sri Lanka, after his outstanding exploits in local and IPL cricket. He was unable to get back into the Test squad, however, as Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul were picked ahead of him.

Iyer still has a chance to make a return in the Tests despite this setback. Even though the BCCI has just revealed the team for the first Test match against Bangladesh, he still has hope for a Test comeback if he does well in the current Duleep Trophy second round.
