Seven students suspended for alleged ragging of a junior student at a government college in Thiruvananthapuram
Karyavattom: At The Government College, Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram, seven students were suspended on Wednesday for allegedly harassing a junior. According to a student who was one of the victims, “I have given my statement, and the police will register an FIR.”

The student’s father claims that the victim of the ragging suffered serious injuries and is now receiving treatment. “There was a fight between friends,” he told ANI. There has been ragging. He is receiving treatment after being brutally assaulted. We have provided the police with a statement.
“I have requested reports from the Directorate of Collegiate Education, and the college-level anti-ragging cell has also initiated procedures pertaining to this,” Kerala Minister of Higher Education and Social Justice Dr. R. Bindu told reporters Tuesday. In this context, strict measures will be implemented. This specific occurrence occurred at a college that is part of the Higher Education Department. Therefore, we have a responsibility to stop these kinds of acts. The anti-ragging group took immediate action, and the accused students have already been expelled from the university.
She further said, “In order to stop ragging on campuses, we want to establish an anti-ragging unit at the state level. We now only have three levels to our system: college, university, and UGC levels all have anti-ragging units. Reports of such occurrences are now coming from college campuses. Therefore, in order to ensure anti-ragging, we have chosen to establish a state-level unit.
According to authorities, a similar occurrence occurred recently when five college students were detained on February 12 for allegedly ragging juniors at Kottayam Government Nursing College.
According to the Gandhinagar Police, all of the students have been placed on two-day police remand. Victim students said that the ragging had been occurring at the institution for about three months.
According to the authorities, the ragging started in November of last year, just after the first-year class started. Police also said that they are looking into the possibility that there are more pupils engaged in the crime.
