Security personnel in Manipur carry out area dominance and search operations in sensitive hill and valley areas
Manipur: After conducting area dominance and search operations in the vulnerable hill and valley areas, the Manipur security forces retrieved a sizable stockpile of firearms. The Manipur Police stated in an official statement on Sunday that these operations were conducted to keep the peace and stop any escalation in the area.
The Manipur Police claim that the security forces found a number of objects during their search operations in Phayeng Porom Hill and the K Songlung region within Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts.
These contained a radio set battery and antenna, 102 empty AK cartridges, two empty SLR cartridges, one 12-bore cartridge, one magazine of SLR ammo, 66 empty SLR cartridges, one misfired AK round, and one locally manufactured explosive. These objects were discovered as part of the continuous efforts to keep the area peaceful.
Asem Kanan Singh (50), from Uripok Sorbon Thingel, Imphal West, and his associates were found to have used the stolen SUV (Fortuner) in a follow-up to an October 1 incident in which armed criminals had forcibly taken it from a civilian in Imphal West, the police statement continued.
According to the Manipur Police, a joint team of security personnel stormed Asem Kanan Singh’s home on Sunday but was unable to find the accused or his friends. A CCTV camera’s DVD player, an i-20 vehicle, three olive-green bags, a yellow life jacket with the SDRF marking, an air rifle (Hurricane MOD-18), and two metal-plated bulletproof vests were among the things confiscated during the operation.
Another event from yesterday was the arrest of Khumbongmayum Abhijit Singh (26), a PREPAK active cadre from the Kakching Chumnang region in the Kakching District, by the Manipur Police.
The news announcement further said that stringent security measures had been put in place to guarantee the travel of 371 cars transporting necessities along NH-2. To guarantee the safe transit of these trucks, security services are providing convoy protection in vulnerable places.
According to an official report, “A total of 106 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley, and no one was detained by the police in connection with violations in different districts of the state.”
The public has also been urged by the Manipur Police to check any bogus films and to avoid believing misinformation. The public has been asked to contact the Central Control Room at the rumor-free number, 9233522822, to verify the legitimacy of any films that have been disseminated.
“The public is urged to return the stolen weapons, ammunition, and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately,” the Manipur Police said.
