Sandeep Dikshit criticises ‘freebies’ announced by parties ahead of Delhi Assembly elections

New Delhi: Senior Congress politician Sandeep Dikshit criticized the “freebies” that political parties had offered ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, arguing that “putting money into people’s pockets is not exactly welfare” and that the national capital’s true problems include development, pollution, broken roads, and a bus scarcity.

In an interview with the media report, the Congress candidate running against AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal for the New Delhi seat discussed the city’s urgent problems and underlined the need for targeted welfare that addresses the people’s real needs.

Putting money in people’s wallets isn’t the same as welfare; welfare is about meeting people’s needs. The people of Delhi already know that they will receive 2100 if they vote for the AAP, 2500 if they vote for the Congress, and 2500 if they vote for the BJP,” Dikshit said on Friday. He added that the real problems are development, pollution, damaged roads, and a lack of buses. “Everywhere I go in NDMC areas, people are facing water shortages,” he said.

Dikshit said that the Congress has stayed focused on the issues that are important to the people of Delhi, while the AAP and BJP have only been talking about the voter list in recent days.

“And if you see, in the past 15 to 20 days, BJP and AAP have only been discussing the voter list… only Congress is talking about who has done work here… there is only one party that is very different when it comes to its work,” he said.

Parvesh Verma, a former MP, has been put up by the BJP for the New Delhi seat. On February 5, the voting will take place, and on February 8, the results will be made public.

On Friday, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said he was certain the Aam Aadmi Party will win the Delhi assembly elections.

Sisodia told ANI that it is wonderful that other parties are now embracing Kejriwal’s tactics and were offering what they termed “remedies” in response to the BJP and other parties’ popular pledges to the public.

The former Deputy Chief Minister blasted the BJP for accusations of “revdi” culture against the AAP, saying that people need to profit from their taxes.

“People should use their tax money to fund facilities rather than spending it on the close buddies of those in positions of authority. It’s a wonderful thing that other parties have realized they can’t mock politics that serves the public interest and are now supporting Kejriwal’s policies, which they formerly disparaged. But “trust” is what counts here. They used to mock Kejriwal for spreading “revdi,” but now they’re claiming they’ll do the same. The problem is, however, who will distribute “trust”—who do people trust?”People have faith in Kejriwal,” he said.

Sisodia, a candidate from Jangpura, predicted that the AAP will win the Delhi elections and that it would get “chappar phaad ke” from the public.

People will give you seats ‘Chappar Phaad ke’ when they give you the impression that they would give you a government with a comfortable majority. So we will win seats ‘Chappar Phaad ke.’. We will find out how many seats we will win as the election draws nearer,” Sisodia told ANI.

“It doesn’t matter if two seats go here and there…we will be forming government with a comfortable majority,” he said.
