RG Kar rape-murder case: On Monday night, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata explained that she had relieved Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, director of health services, and head of medical education from their posts after a long argument with the angry doctors.
In response to the demands raised by the doctors, Banerjee went on to announce the resolution to eliminate the more than month-long standoff brought about by the August 9 junior doctor rape and murder at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Who is CP Vineet Goyal of Kolkata?
Vineet Goyal, who is a senior police officer from the service of the 1995 batch of IPS in Kolkata, took over the reins from Soumen Mitra in December 2021. Vineet Goyal is an officer who has completed both his bachelors and masters from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur, respectively, in the year 1994.
During this period, Goyal has occupied a variety of positions in the Kolkata Police, including special branch, headquarters, and dcp eastern suburbs division at various stages ofied. During protests at a state-owned medical facility, doctors requested that Goyal, after the doctor’s rape and murder, step down as the Kolkata CP. He was severely criticized for his control of the August 14 violence case at steady G. Kar hospital, which occurred during the junior doctors’ demonstration. The accusation was that he was unable to manage the situation nicely when the members of the mob surged the hospital to destroy the crime scene, possibly in attempt to get rid of the evidence.

Although there was “sufficient security presence,” Goyal stated that the police were surprised when a ‘deputy commissioner-ranked officer was injured during the morning hours of 15th August, as they had been expecting the angry protestors to behave non-violently due to the heavy enforcement of police cordon.
As per the orders of the Calcutta High Court, he said the CBI is currently undertaking the investigation and has collated all materials, including video recordings of the post-mortem surgeries from the police outpost in Kolkata. There is no one above the law and CBI has been provided with all the relevant documents. He said trust this central investigation agency.
