Reacting to West Bengal budget, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar termed it “directionless”

Kolkata: Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar criticized the West Bengal budget on Wednesday, calling it “directionless” and claiming it ignores the problem of unemployment.

“This budget lacks focus and fails to address the fundamental issue of unemployment…Only ‘Rewari politics’ is consuming their funds.We would provide DA at the federal level whenever the BJP administration is established (in West Bengal),” he said.

Following recent wins in Odisha and Delhi after 27 years, BJP leader and West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that the BJP would win West Bengal in the next election.

“The BJP will present the budget here next year,” he continues. After 27 years, we prevailed in Delhi and Odisha. We will now defeat West Bengal the next year.

With a focus on social welfare and women’s empowerment, the Trinamool Congress administration, headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, unveiled its last full-fledged budget earlier on Wednesday before the 2026 assembly elections.

Chandrima Bhattacharya, the independent charge minister of state for finance, presented the legislature with a budget of Rs 3.89 lakh crore for 2025–2026.

“Our vision is clear: we aim to boost employment,” said Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, in her remarks about the state budget. The finance minister will shortly settle some of the current conflicts in Tajpur. The opening of the completed Jagannath Temple in Digha is set for April 30.

Regarding the state budget, she went on to say, “The Gangasagar Mela has not received any funding from the central government. Furthermore, an additional Rs 500 crore has been set aside for the Gangasagar Sethu, the planned five-kilometer bridge that will link Sagar Island to the mainland.
