“Grandma was a living example of love and bravery. She taught me that walking boldly on the road of national interest is the true test of strength. “My strength is her memories, which always guide me,” the message said.

She became India’s first and only female prime minister from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 till her murder in October 1984. She was born on November 19, 1917, to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, the country’s first prime minister.

She was renowned for her revolutionary social and economic changes, like as the nationalization of banks, and was the second longest-serving prime minister behind Nehru. Additionally, she eliminated the former princely states’ privy purses.

On October 31, 1984, Indira Gandhi, who was regarded as one of the tallest global leaders, was killed at her home on Akbar Road by her own Sikh bodyguards. This followed the execution of Operation Bluestar at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, when Gandhi gave the Indian Army orders to fight Sikh separatists who had sought refuge in the sacred site.

Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Malikarjun Kharge also honored Indira Gandhi earlier today at New Delhi’s Shakti Sthal.

The ‘Iron Lady of India’ was a symbol of bravery, dynamic leadership, and a lifetime of battle, and Kharge noted in a post on X that many people were inspired by her.

“The life of the ‘Iron Lady of India,’ Indira Gandhi, will continue to inspire Indians because she was the embodiment of unwavering fortitude, strong leadership, and selfless nation-building. She gave her life in order to protect India’s integrity and unity. “Our modest tribute on the anniversary of her birth,” Kharge said in her post.
