Punjab government sacks DSP who helped record gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s interview
Punjab: Deputy Superintendent of Police Gursher Singh Sandhu was fired by the Punjab government for reportedly helping a television channel capture an interview with mobster Lawrence Bishnoi when he was being held by CIA Kharar.
Gurkirat Karpal Singh, Secretary to the Government of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs, issued the dismissal order on Thursday.
Invoking Article 311 of the Constitution, the government fired the DSP, who had been suspended since October 25, 2024.
According to the ruling, Sandhu “facilitated the recording of an interview of Lawrence Bishnoi by a TV channel while he was in the custody of CIA, Kharar,” according to the findings of the SIT established by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
According to the order, “And whereas after careful consideration of the facts and circumstances, the State Government is satisfied that Gursher Singh Sandhu, PPS (under suspension), has severely dented the image of the Punjab Police as a result of his misconduct, negligence, and dereliction of duty during the occurrence of the interview of Lawrence Bishnoi while in the custody of CIA Kharur.”
“His improper performance of his duties is a flagrant breach of the Punjab Police’s conduct and discipline regulations. According to the ruling, Gursher Singh Sandhu has been fired from his position as DSP in the Punjab Police.
The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), which appoints cadre officers for the Punjab Police Service (PPS), gave its assent before the order was issued.
In connection with the interview, Sandhu was one of seven Punjab Police officers suspended in October 2024.
