Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said no one will be forgiven for the vandalism of BR Ambedkar’s statue in Amritsar
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that no one would be pardoned for the demolition of the BR Ambedkar monument in Amritsar on Monday.
There was a great deal of indignation after the event, which happened on Republic Day. CM Mann underlined that the event is completely unacceptable and that those guilty will face harsh penalties. He gave the administration instructions to conduct a comprehensive investigation and take decisive action against the offenders.
CM Mann stressed in a post on X that “No one will be forgiven for the incident of breaking the statue of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar ji on the heritage street of Shri Amritsar Sahib. It is a highly condemnable incident.” The person who caused the catastrophe will face harsh consequences. Punjab’s solidarity and fraternity will not be broken by anybody. The government has been instructed to look into it and take strong measures against those responsible.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the head of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), also condemned the conduct, claiming that it had wounded millions of people’s feelings. He called for a thorough investigation to determine the plot behind the occurrence and harsh punishment for the offender.
“We vehemently oppose the Republic Day effort to defile the monument of Dr. BR Ambedkar ji at Sri Amritsar Sahib’s Heritage Street. Millions of people have been offended by this horrible deed. I call for harsh punishment for the offender and a comprehensive investigation to find the plot behind this ignominious event. He urged us to unify in the face of such heinous efforts to sow discord in our community.
Earlier on Sunday, Punjab Police said that they had taken many criminals into custody for allegedly trying to alter the monument. To ascertain the cause of the occurrence, a case has been filed and an investigation is still on.

We apprehended them, and an investigation is underway with a complaint filed. “We still don’t know the reason behind the incident,” Amritsar Police Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Jagjit Singh Walia told the media report.
