Pune police made tight security arrangements at counting of votes for Maharashtra assembly elections
Maharashtra: The Pune police have made robust security measures with a sufficient number of officers as the Maharashtra Assembly election counting began on Saturday. Sudarshan Rathore, the Pune Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police, told a media report that 20 officials and 250 jawans are in Baramati to prevent any mishaps during the counting procedure.
“We have set up a three-tier security system here in accordance with the ECI recommendations. Here, outer and inner-middle cordons are positioned.Cell phones are not permitted inside, and we are screening everyone. There are around twenty officials and 250 jawans here today,” he stated.
Baramati is hosting one of the most anticipated contests in these elections. where Yugendra Pawar, the younger brother of Ajit Pawar’s brother Shrinivas Pawar, is running against him.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Baramati also garnered notice as Sunetra Pawar faced off against Supriya Sule, who won by a margin of 1.5 lakh votes.
The results of the by-elections in a number of states, as well as the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, will be counted starting at 8 a.m. today.
Over 66 percent of voters turned out to vote in Maharashtra’s Legislative Assembly polls on Wednesday, above the 61 percent turnout in the 2019 elections.
The MVA coalition, which consists of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), is a fierce rival to the Mahayuti alliance, which consists of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. The higher voter participation is seen by both coalitions as an indication of support for their respective campaigns.
The NCP, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is running for 52 seats in the Mahayuti coalition; the Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, is running for 80; and the BJP is running for 148. Mahayuti candidates are running for six more seats.
Congress is running for 102 seats in the MVA coalition, followed by Shiv Sena (UBT) for 96 and NCP (SP) for 86. Each of the minor MVA allies and the Samajwadi Party is running for two seats.
