Pune: 54-year-old cook arrested for sexually assaulting and killing two minor sisters
Pune: According to police on Friday, a 54-year-old chef has been taken into custody for reportedly murdering two young girls, ages 9 and 8, after sexually abusing them in Pune, Maharashtra. After appearing in court, the accused was placed in police detention until January 1, 2025.
The accused, a chef at a nearby hotel, was a neighbor of the victims and well-known to their family, according to authorities.
The girls went missing on Wednesday morning while playing close to their house, which prompted a search, according to Pune Superintendent of Police (Rural) Pankaj Deshmukh.
The girls’ remains were later discovered on Wednesday night inside a water drum next to their home.
The accused reportedly sexually molested the older sister, according to SP Deshmukh. “The accused also attacked the younger girl after she rescued her sibling. Then he drowned the two females in the water drum to murder them.
He stated that the accused was apprehended Thursday morning while attempting to flee to North India from a lodging in Pune city.
A complaint has been filed against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and the relevant portions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
