Previous governments failed to address the plight of Bru-Reang refugees: Amit Shah
The previous CPI-led administrations in Tripura were criticized by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday for allegedly ignoring the growth and settlement of the state’s Bru-Reang population. He said that the situation of the Bru-Reang migrants was not addressed by these nations.
Shah praised the efforts made by the present BJP-led administration in Tripura to settle and rehabilitate the Bru-Reang people. Camps, drinking water, roads, pucca homes, schools, healthcare services, gas cylinders, and other necessities have been made available by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, he said.
“There was a government that claimed to represent tribals, the poor, and the marginalized, but it did not care about the Bru-Reang refugees,” Shah stated in his remarks at the Conference of Cooperatives event. In 2018, the BJP established a government in Tripura, and in 2019, Prime Minister Modi was sworn in for the second time.
Camps, drinking water, roads, pucca houses, schools, healthcare services, gas cylinders for every household, five kilograms of food grains for every refugee, Rs five lakh in healthcare benefits, and electricity for every home were all part of the extensive plans the BJP had put in place for the rehabilitation of these refugees by 2020.
“We have also made arrangements for their secondary education today,” he said. They were living under unfavorable circumstances. They are entitled to a decent life with the necessities as they are citizens of this country. However, the rights of the Bru-Reang people were ignored when the Laal Sarkar (CPI) regimes were in power.
The BJP administration, led by Kamal Phool Sarkar, was ultimately responsible for making sure they got what they were entitled.
Shah emphasized earlier in the day the BJP government’s efforts to provide clean water and education to 40,000 members of the Bru-Reang minority in Tripura.
At the Kulai RF Village Ground in the Dhalai district, Shah also officially opened and laid the groundwork for a number of development projects totaling Rs 668.39 crore.
Shah called on the northeast’s chief ministers, governors, and citizens to put in endless effort to eradicate drug use and addiction in the area as quickly as possible on Saturday.
He stated, “Over the past few years, this region has emerged as a major corridor and consumption center for highly addictive and contraband drugs,” while speaking at the 72nd Plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Agartala. In the last six years, a lot has been accomplished, but the pace must quicken.
I urge the northeast’s top ministers, governors, and citizens to do all in their power to eradicate drugs from the area. To get rid of this threat, we have to cooperate. The ultimate objective is to eradicate drugs from the whole country.
Shah also emphasized how crucial it is to assure that every northeastern person has access to the rights outlined in the Constitution.
He also described the government’s multifaceted strategy for enhancing regional security. The police, army, Assam Rifles, and Central Reserve Police Force have all worked together to create a strong system over the last ten years thanks to the implementation of state-specific initiatives.
Over the last ten years, this has resulted in an 86% drop in civilian fatalities and a 31% decrease in violent events. “Many agreements have been signed, and about 10,574 militants have surrendered,” Shah said during the NEC plenary session.
