Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana has become a big boon for Kashmiri girls
Srinagar: For Kashmiri girls who want to improve their employability by acquiring new skills, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana has proven to be a huge help.

The National Skill Development Corporation is responsible for implementing PMKVY, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s (MSDE) main program. Enabling a large number of Indian youngsters to enroll in industry-relevant skill training that would help them secure a better life is the aim of this talent certification scheme.
Mehwish, a Srinagar local, saw the recent surge in Jammu and Kashmir tourists. She enrolled in the PMKVY program to learn as a housekeeping assistant since she was aware that the tourist sector would create a large number of employment opportunities.
“I have finished my degree. After learning about PMKVY, I realized how crucial having talents is. The flow of tourists was really low before 2019, but it is presently high,” Mehwish told the media report.
“Everywhere you look, there are brand-new hotels and resorts, and work prospects are growing… In order to get employment and provide for my family, I enrolled in a housekeeping assistant program,” she said.
Another resident of Srinagar who has benefitted from the PMKVY told the media report that her instructors informed her about the program.
“I completed my computer application diploma. I learned about PMKVY from my instructor, which allowed us to develop our professional abilities,” she told the media report.
“I discovered that it had a lot of scope when I was in. This plan is excellent for everyone. We weren’t billed any money for this,” she said.
Reviving Namda Craft was one of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana initiative’s significant accomplishments in Kashmir. In July 2023, the first shipment of Namda Art goods was sent to the United Kingdom.
A Namda rug is created by felting sheep wool rather than using the traditional weaving method. Between 1998 and 2008, the export of this craft fell by about 100% as a result of poor marketing strategies, a shortage of experienced labor, and limited raw material availability.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the government of Jammu and Kashmir is focusing on digital technologies and industry while decentralizing and increasing demand for skill development.

The training offered by PMKVY Training Centers (TCs) is intended to help individuals who are jobless beyond the age of 14 or who are semi-skilled or unskilled. The National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) is followed in the certification and delivery of the training programs. In addition to technical skills, TCs provide training in digital and financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and soft skills.
