Police detained former MLA for allegedly firing at MLA Umesh Kumar’s office
Haridwar: The Haridwar Police have arrested former MLA Pranav Singh Champion for allegedly shooting at Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar’s office.
Before being apprehended by Haridwar Police, Champion was detained at the Nehru Colony police station after being stopped by Doon police, according to the authorities.
In the middle of the day, the accused started shooting at Umesh Kumar’s workplace. Images taken from the location revealed areas of gunshot marks on the wall as well as two bullet holes in the glass window of the office.
“Haridwar Police have detained Pranav Singh Champion from the Nehru Colony Police Station in Dehradun in connection with his shooting in broad daylight at the Khanpur MLA’s office in Roorkee of the Haridwar district. Doon Police apprehended him and detained him at the Nehru Colony Police Station, according to Dehradun Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar.
After a video of the shooting went viral on social media, the police took suo moto cognizance, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal.
“A video showing former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion firing MLA Umesh Kumar at his residential camp office is going viral… Suo moto notice of this has been taken by the police, and those responsible will face the appropriate legal consequences,” he informed ANI.
It’s important to remember that the accused’s wife, Rani Devrani Singh, has claimed that Umesh Kumar showed up at her home in Landhora, Roorkee, with three cars on January 25 and caused a disturbance before the shooting event.
On the basis of Rani Devrani Singh’s allegation at the Civil Line police station in Roorkee, the police have also opened a case.
Following Rani Devrani Singh’s accusation, MLA Umesh Kumar and at least 24 of his followers were charged under many provisions.
