PM Narendra Modi enjoys chess match with Olympiad winning team’s Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi | Watch
PM Narendra Modi hosted the Indian men’s and women’s chess teams at his house on Wednesday, during which he saw a game of bullet chess between R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi, the winners of India’s 45th Chess Olympiad. India’s men’s and women’s teams created history in the just-finished Chess Olympiad by winning gold medals in their respective categories for the first time. This puts them among the select few nations to have won two gold medals in one tournament. Following this incredible accomplishment, Prime Minister Modi hosted the Indian chess teams, both women’s and men’s, at his house on Wednesday to commemorate their triumph in the FIDE Chess Olympiad.
With the tagline, “Bullet Chess by two Grandmasters,” the prime minister posted a video of Praggnanandhaa and Arjun playing the game on his official social media accounts. Amazing! India has a very promising future in chess.”

Uzbekistan took home the medal in the men’s tournament, while the USA finished in second place. Kazakhstan won silver in the women’s tournament, while the United States grabbed third place.
The men’s team from India, which included D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, and Pentala Harikrishna, beat Slovenia in the tournament’s final round to win the gold medal. India took a 2-0 lead after wins from Arjun and Gukesh, clinching the gold. India won 3.5-0.5 after Vidit drew and Praggnanandhaa won his match later on.
In the meanwhile, after defeating Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5, the Indian women’s team, which included Harika Dronavalli, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agarwal, and Tania Sachdev, also took home the gold. In the ultimate round, Vaishali’s match against Ulviyya Fataliyeva ended in a draw, while Harika, Divya, and Vantika triumphed in their respective matches.
