PM Modi meets Barbados PM Mottley
On the fringes of the India-CARICOM conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley. He expressed gratitude to the Barbados government and people for bestowing upon him the Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award.
“I had a very good meeting with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X. Science and technology, healthcare, education, climate change, and agriculture were among the topics we discussed.
“I express my gratitude to the Barbados government and people for bestowing the Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award,” he stated. This honor is devoted to the Indian people.
The arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a “historic moment” for the CARICOM nations, and PM Mottley had told the media previously that they were honored to hold the meeting.
“I believe that everyone is grateful for the chance to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The ability to meet with and have CARICOM-India at the level of Heads of Government is a historic moment for the majority of us in CARICOM,” she had said.
Speaking to ANI, the prime minister of Barbados noted that the leaders had last convened at the UN General Assembly. “Speaks of the strength of the relationship between the two regions” is how she described their encounters.
In the UN, Commonwealth, NAM, and other international fora, India and Barbados actively engage in close and friendly ties.
Barbados has been supporting India’s candidacy on a number of global platforms, including elections for several UN organizations, according to a statement from the External Affairs Ministry.
The majority of the approximately 3,000 Indian immigrants who have settled in Barbados have subsequently obtained local citizenship.
