PM Modi holds bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Abbas in New York, expressing deep concern over humanitarian situation in Gaza
During their meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his profound concern for the humanitarian situation in Gaza and reiterated India’s support for the prompt restoration of peace and stability in the area. Mahmoud Abbas is the president of the Palestinian Authority.
On the second day of his three-day visit to the US, Modi met the president on the fringes of the UN General Assembly meeting on Sunday. “In New York, I met President Mahmoud Abbas. reaffirmed India’s support for the prompt restoration of the region’s peace and stability. shared ideas on how to deepen our long-standing relationship with the Palestinian people,” Modi said in a post on X.

Modi “reaffirmed India’s continued support to the people of Palestine” and “expressed deep concern at the humanitarian situation in Gaza,” according to the tweet. After attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he also held one-on-one talks with US President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Modi landed in New York on Saturday.
At the ‘Modi&US’ massive community gathering on Long Island on Sunday afternoon, Modi spoke to thousands of Indian Americans. In a roundtable meeting, he also engaged with the US CEOs and leading tech executives.
He had bilateral talks with foreign leaders later in the day. India has reaffirmed that only a two-state solution reached via meaningful and direct discussions between both parties would result in sustainable peace and reaffirmed its commitment to a fair, peaceful, and long-lasting resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
According to figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said that, between October 7, 2023, and September 16 of this year, at least 41,226 Palestinians have died and 95,413 have been wounded. Over 1,542 Israelis and foreigners have died during this time, most of them on October 7, when Hamas assaulted Israel, according to the Israeli military and official Israeli authorities quoted in the media.
