PM Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met today at Hyderabad House in Delhi
Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the president of Sri Lanka, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Monday at Hyderabad House in Delhi.
The meeting began with the two leaders exchanging pleasantries and engaging in conversation.

From December 15–17, the president of Sri Lanka will be in India on a state visit. After taking office in September, this is Dissanayake’s first bilateral trip to India. L Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, welcomed the president of Sri Lanka earlier on Sunday in Delhi.
President Dissanayake also met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman after his arrival in Delhi.
Dissanayake said in a post on X, “I had the honor of having fruitful conversations with National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during my official tour to India. Our discussions centered on developing important industries like tourism and energy, expanding investment possibilities, promoting regional security, and strengthening Indo-Sri Lankan economic cooperation. The dedication to strengthening our two countries’ cooperation is reaffirmed by these interactions.
In his Sunday meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Jaishankar emphasized the island nation’s significant contribution to SAGAR Outlook and India’s Neighbourhood First policy. He also reaffirmed his belief that more collaboration between New Delhi and Colombo would result from President Dissanayake’s discussions with Prime Minister Modi today.
“Happy to call on President @anuradisanayake at the beginning of his first State Visit to India,” Jaishankar said in a post on X. Sri Lanka is essential to SAGAR Outlook and India’s Neighborhood First strategy. I’m sure that tomorrow’s discussions with PM @narendramodi will result in increased trust and closer collaboration.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that the president of Sri Lanka would visit Bodh Gaya and take part in a business gathering in Delhi while in India.
He said, “The visit of President Dissanayake to India shall further strengthen the multi-faceted and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.”
“Sri Lanka is India’s closest maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and holds a central place in Prime Minister’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a news statement.
