Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence to hold meeting to review Rashtriya Military Schools
New Delhi: On Friday at 11 AM, members of the Ministry of Defence will testify orally before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence on the evaluation of the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), the Rashtriya Military Schools, and Sainik Schools.
The Parliament House Annexe’s Committee Room will host the meeting. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, is also a member of this committee.
The Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committees for 2024–2025 were established last month, and four of them—including External Affairs—are chaired by members of Congress.
Members of both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha make up each committee.
Congress was Entrusted with the Leadership of four Important Committees
Four important committees have been assigned to the Congress to head. Digvijaya Singh will serve as the chairman of the committee on education, women, children, youth, and sports. Charanjit Singh Channi, the former chief minister of Punjab, will serve as the chairman of the committee on agriculture, animal husbandry, and food processing. Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka will lead the Rural and Panchayati Raj committees, while Shashi Tharoor will lead the External Affairs committee.
The committee on defense is led by Radha Mohan Singh of the BJP, while the committee on finance is led by Bhartruhari Mahtab. The chairmanships of the committees on coal, mines and steel, and water resources were awarded to former Union Ministers Anurag Thakur and Rajiv Pratap Rudy, respectively.
Nishikant Dubey, a member of the BJP, was appointed head of the Communications and Information Technology committee.
The chairman of the BJP’s Committee on Home Affairs is Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal. Dola Sen of the TMC will lead the Commerce Committee. Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party will serve as the head of the Health and Family Welfare committee.
Monitoring Matters Relating to Economic Development and Commerce
The DMK’s Tiruchi Siva is in charge of the industry panel. This committee’s responsibility is to monitor and provide legislative oversight on matters pertaining to trade policy, economic development, and commerce in relation to India’s commerce sector. The committee is essential in examining policy issues and making sure the commerce industry makes a meaningful contribution to the national economy.
BJP MPs Anil Baluni, Kangana Ranaut, and Poonam Madam, as well as TMC’s Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha, are among the members of the Committee on Communications and IT, together with SP’s Jaya Bachchan, SS-UBT’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, BJD’s Sushmit Patra, and INC’s KTS Tulsi from the Upper House.
One committee will be led by each of the main BJP allies, including the TDP and Janata Dal (United), as well as its partners in Maharashtra, which is up for election: the Shiv Sena and the NCP. the committee on Housing and Urban Affairs (led by Magenta Sreenivasulu Reddy of the TDP), Energy (led by Shrirang Appa Chandu Barne of the Shiv Sena), and Petroleum and Natural Gas (led by Sunil Tatkare of the NCP). The Transportation, Tourism, and Culture committee is led by Sanjay Jha of the JD(U), while the Housing and Urban Affairs committee will be chaired by Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy of the TDP.
