On World Braille Day, Gujarat Government emphasises its commitment to improve accessibility and inclusiveness for persons with disabilities
On World Braille Day, the Gujarat government emphasized its dedication to enhancing inclusion and accessibility for people with special needs. In Sultanpur village, Navsari district, braille signboards were installed, along with wheelchairs and ramps in the public restrooms.
Sultanpur village in Navsari district has established an encouraging example of inclusive development in a laudable project under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), according to an official statement.
Braille signboards have been installed in the village’s public restrooms for those with visual impairments.
Wide doors, grab grips for convenience, ramps for handicapped access, and roomy interiors for easy maneuverability are further advantages.
On January 4, we celebrate World Braille Day, which honors the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the man who invented the Braille system that enables persons with visual impairments to read and write.
Shashikant Bhupendra Patel, the Sarpanch of Sultanpur village, highlighted the importance of the project by stating: “These communal restrooms’ prime position, next to the ancient Jogeshwar Mahadev Temple, draws regular tourists from other villages. The temple’s spectacular fair during Shravan month draws even more visitors.
“Every segment of society may access basic facilities thanks to this facility for Divyang (specially-abled) people. There are around 25 Divyang living in Sultanpur alone. Along with a designated children’s play space, a garden has also been created on the nearby panchayat property,” Patel said.
Significant attempts have been made to prevent open defecation in Navsari. More than 100 communal restrooms and more than 2 lakh private restrooms have been built.
According to the statement, creating strong infrastructure and running awareness efforts have been prioritized in order to guarantee the project’s sustainability. The objective of the Swachh Bharat Mission is still centered on inclusivity.
Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) and sustainable livelihoods are being fostered by community efforts in Sultanpur, a forward-thinking hamlet that embodies Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s goal for women’s empowerment.
Of its 2,600 or so residents, 107 women are turning their courtyards into productive kitchen gardens. They raise wholesome veggies for their family and make extra cash by selling their excess product by engaging in natural farming.
“Sarpanch Patel conducts a survey to evaluate kitchen gardens and organizes a competition to recognize the best ones, personally sponsoring prizes for the women,” according to the press release.
“We’ve been doing this competition to encourage kitchen gardening and natural farming for the last two years. After participants fill out paperwork, agricultural officials evaluate their gardens according to predetermined standards. We also provide the required direction. The best three gardens get prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000, and Rs 3,000,” he said.
With the help of Navsari Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sultanpur’s youth are leading the way in self-reliance via projects like fish farming and natural farming.
Sultanpur embodies the idea of a Swachh and Atmanirbhar Bharat by perfectly balancing cleanliness and independence.
