On Vijay Diwas, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami honors the sacrifices made by veterans of the conflict

Dehradun: On the occasion of “Vijay Diwas,” Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hailed the Indian Army, former military members, the nation, and the state’s citizens.

“The Indian Army’s bravery and honor are on show today. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the CM said, “We are proud of our brave soldiers who always contribute with readiness to protect the country.”

“The supreme sacrifice made by the brave soldiers to protect the borders of the country will always be remembered,” he said.

To celebrate India’s triumph over Pakistan in the 13-day war that culminated with Pakistan signing the surrender document in Dhaka and the consequent independence of Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan), the country celebrates Vijay Diwas, commemorating the 1971 independence war on December 16.

It has been reported that during the 1971 conflict, 9,851 Indian troops were wounded, and 3,900 are thought to have perished.

“We are proud of the bravery of our soldiers, and the whole country salutes their bravery,” the CM stated, as per the release.

With the yearly exchange of war veterans and active officers, India and Bangladesh will jointly celebrate the 53rd anniversary of Vijay Diwas of the 1971 India-Pakistan war today.

To mark Bangladesh’s Victory Day festivities, two active Indian Armed Forces officers and eight Indian war veterans have traveled to Dhaka.

In a similar vein, the Indian Army said on Sunday that two active officers and eight notable Muktijoddhas (independence warriors) from the Bangladesh Armed Forces had traveled to India to take part in today’s Vijay Diwas festivities in Kolkata.

In the national capital, President Droupadi Murmu attended an ‘At-Home’ event organized by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi at Army House on the eve of Vijay Diwas.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar were also in attendance.
