In the meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to the Mahayuti’s overwhelming win in the state’s elections on Thursday by stating that they received more votes than they had anticipated.
Speaking at the Times Network-hosted India Economic Conclave. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s catchphrase, “Ek hai toh safe hai,” reportedly performed “magic” in the state, according to Fadnavis.
“If we are expecting that, I would answer that I knew we (BJP) were going to win the 132 seats, but this is incorrect; he was unaware that we would win a significant number of seats. I knew they (Mahayuti) were going to win the elections. After winning 132 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Fadnavis said, “We got higher numbers than we expected.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti coalition won a resounding victory with 235 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024.
With 132 seats, the BJP became the single-largest party, marking a major turning point in the election.
With 57 and 41 seats, respectively, the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party also saw significant increases.
Notably, Congress only won 16 of 288 assembly seats in the most recent Maharashtra elections, giving the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) a significant defeat. The NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) only managed 10 seats, while its coalition partner, Shiv Sena (UBT), took home 20 seats.
