Naveen Patnaik: On the 91st birth anniversary of Harishchandra Baxipatra, he called politics without morality a ‘hypocrisy’
Odisha: Naveen Patnaik, the leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and a former chief minister of Odisha, emphasized the significance of mortality in politics on Sunday, referring to politics devoid of morality as “hypocrisy.” He claimed that only a politician with strong moral principles could have a significant impact on people’s lives.
At a celebration in Bhubaneswar to commemorate the 91st anniversary of the birth of former Odisha minister Harishchandra Baxipatra, Patnaik defined politics as a dedication to providing unwavering service to the populace.
“Politics is hypocritical when it lacks morals. People’s life may be drastically changed by a single, morally upright leader who is devoted and determined,” the former chief minister of Odisha said.
The president of the BJD went into additional detail about what politics is all about. “Politics is a commitment,” he said, “a promise to serve the people without conditions and to strive for an ideal. Politics is unquestionably the source of power and a means of advancing the interests of the populace.
Patnaik went on to emphasize that a leader’s greatest asset is the happiness of their followers, emphasizing that their affection is more significant than their position, rank, or power.
“A lot of people see politics as a means of gaining power. However, I think that the world of power, rank, and position is less significant than people’s love. “A leader’s greatest asset is the satisfaction of their people,” Patnaik said.
Social scientist Jogendra Yadav and former Odisha minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai were also in attendance.
Patnaik said, “The late Harishchandra Baxipatra held a unique place in the political history of Odisha and India,” in reference to her life. Late Baxipatra, a staunch socialist, began his professional life as a student leader. There were few parallels in Odisha history to his unrelenting battle against exploitation and his support of farmers, tribal people, and the poor.
Patnaik further emphasized Baxipatra’s position as a minister in Biju Patnaik’s government and his strong relationship with the renowned Biju Patnaik. “He really was a friend to the underprivileged. He said that his life and work were a reflection of his strong belief in socialist principles.
“Nowadays the absence of such idealistic leaders is strongly felt in politics,” said Patnaik.
“Politics is selfless service and commitment,” Patnaik wrote on X, sharing photos from the ceremony. Politics devoid of values is only a myth. On the day of his birth, honor the distinguished politician Harishchandra Baxipatra, who had a unique position in Odisha politics.
“His biggest identity was struggle. Compared to the identification of a minister or MLA, this identity was much higher. He really was a friend to the underprivileged. His life and work showed his strong belief in socialist principles,” the post said.
“Politics is a commitment, a commitment to an ideal, a commitment to serve the people selflessly,” Patnaik’s statement went on to say. People’s lives can only be changed by dedicated politicians. I believe that the love of the people is more important than status, power, and prestige. The most precious thing a politician can have is the public’s pleasure. Odisha.
