Mumbai: Three Bangladeshi nationals sentenced to imprisonment and fine for illegally entering India
Mumbai: Three Bangladeshi nationals were sentenced to imprisonment and fined by the 8th Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Mumbai after being found guilty of illegally entering India and residing with forged documents.

Addl CJM Kanchan Zanwar rendered the decision based on the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch’s evidence.
The case started on April 24, 2024, when the Criminal Intelligence Squad, led by Police Station Incharge Milind Kathe, received sensitive information regarding Bangladeshi nationals entering India without the required travel documents, according to a statement from the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch.
These people were accused of living illegally in Mumbai and forging Indian citizenship papers.
The accused were held at Vishnu Magar, which is located across from Hala Colony, RCF, after a team was sent there. A case was registered under sections 465, 466, 467, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with provisions of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950, the Foreign Nationals Order, 1948, and the Foreigners Act, 1946. A charge sheet was filed in court as a consequence of the inquiry, which was headed by Police Inspector Dilip Tejankar.
The court sentenced the accused to imprisonment and imposed fines under multiple sections, including sections 465, 468, and 471 of IPC (which deal with forgery and use of forged documents) and violations under the Passport Act and Foreigners Act.
Special activities since January 1, 2025, have resulted in the registration of 28 cases, the arrest of 42 citizens of Bangladesh, and the confiscation of counterfeit papers, including three Bangladeshi passports, four PAN cards, four voter ID cards, and 14 Aadhaar cards.
According to the announcement, an Indian national who was discovered assisting the infiltrators has also been taken into custody.
In 2024, the Maharashtra anti-terror squad (ATS) detained 60 undocumented immigrants from Bangladesh around the state. According to a statement, the ATS arrested forty-three Bangladeshi nationals living unlawfully in December 2024 alone. The Maharashtra ATS claims that the Bangladeshi nationals were using forged voter ID cards, Aadhar cards, and PAN cards.
