MP Pappu Yadav made this serious allegation about electoral transparency and the impact of technology on democracy
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant and Independent MP Pappu Yadav have made grave claims about the technology’s effects on electoral democracy and transparency as the opposition takes the matter to the Supreme Court.
Sawant unleashed a harsh attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) in response to a question about the ECI’s recent claim that there was no EVM mismatch in Maharashtra. “Has the Election Commission ever spoken the truth or brought the truth in front of the people of India” queried him.
“The authorities committed fraud during the actual election…Numerous parties and candidates made grave concerns, but no action was done, he said.
Sawant’s comments are indicative of opposition leaders’ rising doubts over the fairness of elections conducted using electronic voting machines.
By raising concerns about the security of EVMs and calling for a return to ballot paper voting, Pappu Yadav intensified the criticism.
“Electricians in no civilized nation use electronic voting machines…”Where are the 20 lakh stolen EVMs?” he insisted.
“What is the problem with conducting elections using ballot paper?” Yadav said, emphasizing his lack of faith in the system. Our nation and democracy are under danger due to machines (EVMs). We’ll demonstrate how to hack an EVM.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, had backed the INDIA bloc’s request to take the EVM case all the way to the Supreme Court.
In an interview with media, she said that when voter participation rises, the Election Commission of India bears some responsibility.
“There is some responsibility of the Election Commission of India, especially when the former Election Commission of India has also said the voter turnout increases and there is a mismatch observed in the numbers, there should be checking on it.”
“People do not have faith in EVM and the Election Commission is not interfering in this, so we will take this voice to the Supreme Court,” said Nana Patole, president of the Maharashtra Congress.
Milind Deora, a Rajya Sabha MP for the Shiv Sena, challenged the opposition, stating that they need to make their evidence of EVM malfunctions public.
“When they lose an election, they blame the EVM, but not when they win one. Their parties lack democracy, and this is shady politics. I’ve run in five elections. “I would be the first to support anyone who has evidence against the EVM,” Deora said.
