Many MLAs of Manipur demanded the central government to review the implementation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the state
Manipur: Several Manipur MLAs passed a resolution on Monday outlining their demands, including requesting that the central government examine the implementation of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) in the state, amid the ongoing tensions and the National People’s Party’s (NPP) decision to withdraw its support from the Biren Singh government.
A major operation against the Kuki militants, who are accused of murdering six people in Jiribam, including women and children, must be launched within seven days, according to the decision. Additionally, it called for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over three significant cases including the murder of a woman farmer, the burning death of another lady, and the murder of six innocent bystanders.
In their decision, the MLAs agreed to designate Kuki militants as a “unlawful organization” within seven days after the deaths of six innocent persons, including women and children.
The resolution issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat stated that “all the NDA Legislators will decide the future course of action in consultation with the people of the State if the above resolutions taken are not implemented within the specified period.” It also guaranteed that the state and federal governments would take action to restore normalcy in Manipur.
The governing MLAs also denounced the behavior of “certain persons” who attacked them and set fire to their property during the conference.
All of the legislators in attendance vehemently denounced the miscreants’ savage behavior, which included looting and property damage. The resolution said that “legal action will be taken against the concerned miscreants, based on the findings of a High Powered Committee.”
