Manish Sisodia criticized BJP for alleged objectionable statement made about CM Atishi
Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia criticized the BJP on Monday for allegedly supporting offensive remarks about women, especially women leaders, made by Ramesh Bidhuri, the BJP candidate for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, about Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Sisodia said that the party’s character was reflected in such behavior.
Sisodia responded to Bidhuri’s remark, saying, “This is the character of the BJP; whatever Ramesh Bidhuri says, he would not say it without discussing it with his leaders or on the instructions of senior leaders of his party.” Bidhuri is running against Atishi for the Kalkaji constituency seat.
He further pointed out that Bidhuri’s statements were made at a public gathering where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was urging Delhi residents to support his administration, and that they were part of a wider trend of contempt towards women in politics.
He asked whether the Prime Minister approved of Bidhuri’s conduct and if the BJP was condoning such behavior in the political arena of Delhi.
“This is the BJP’s tendency to say offensive things about women, women CM… Ramesh Bidhuri was assaulting ladies and making offensive remarks about them yesterday when the prime minister was urging the Delhi populace to join his administration. Whether or not he agrees with him should be made clear by the prime minister. Is he requesting votes in order to advance someone like Ramesh Bidhuri in Delhi politics? Sisodia went on.
Speaking at a public event earlier on Sunday, Ramesh Bidhuri made remarks on CM Atishi’s last name and family, stating, “Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh.” Even her father has been altered by her.
In response to the comments, Arvind Kejriwal accused BJP leaders of “abusing” Chief Minister Atishi and going beyond “all limits of shamelessness” on the social networking site X.
He said that the Delhi populace would not put up with this and will respond to the BJP appropriately in the next assembly elections.
“BJP leaders have gone beyond the bounds of decency. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi ji is being mistreated by BJP leaders. The affront of a female chief minister will not be accepted by the people of Delhi. “All Delhi women will exact revenge for this,” Kejriwal said on X.
Bidhuri’s “controversial” comments on Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had already caused yet another controversy.
In a video posted by AAP MP Sanjay Singh on X, Bidhuri said that if the BJP were to win power, all of Kalkaji’s roads would be made to resemble Priyanka Gandhi’s “cheeks.”
In response to Congress indignation, Bidhuri apologized on Sunday for his divisive comments on Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Bidhuri subsequently stated that his sentiments were in line with those of Lalu Yadav and emphasized that the Congress party had said nothing in response to similar statements made when he was a minister.
