Manipur Police arrested 15 cadres of various militant groups in multiple raids across the state

Imphal: In many searches around the state on March 8 and 9, Manipur police detained 15 cadres of different insurgent organizations, according to an official statement.

“The state’s position was tight but under control throughout the last 24 hours. Security personnel carried out search operations and area domination in the vulnerable and outlying regions of the hill and valley districts, according to a statement released by the Manipur Police.

In Gandhi Avenue, Thangal Bazar under City-PS, Imphal West District, five active NRFM organization cadres were arrested by Manipur Police on March 9. They are Keisham Robertson Meitei @ Nanao (age 29), Moirangthem Tanu Devi @ Chinglembi @ Ichanthoi (age 21), Nameirakpam Rashini Devi @ Thoibi @ Mangaleima (age 25), Meikam Ichan Chanu (age 32), and Laishram Menaka Chanu @ Lanchenbl (27). They were engaged in the shipment of weapons and ammunition as well as extortion. Five cell phones, one ID card, and one two-wheeler were discovered in their possession.

“Laiphrakpam Soniya Devi @ Tombi @ Lamjingbi (24), an active member of the NRFM organization from Golapati Masjid Achouba Awang Leirak under Porompat-PS, Imphal East District, was detained by Manipur Police on March 9. She engaged in extortion against members of the public, private companies, government representatives, and others. A wallet containing Rs 1,07,260 and a cell phone was found in their hands, according to the statement from Manipur Police.

Two active PREPAK (Pro) cadres from Khongman Nandeibam Leikai under Irilbung-PS, Imphal East District, were detained by Manipur Police on March 9. They are Heikrujam Arvind Singh @ Micheal @ Heiroiba (32) and Chirom Rostam Meitei @ Chiromba (25). They engaged in extortion against members of the public, commercial companies, government representatives, and others. Two cell phones were found in their possession.

“On March 9, Manipur Police detained three active PREPAK (Pro) cadres from Heinoupok, close to Ima Medhapati School in the Imphal West District: Yumnam Athoibi Chanu, Palujam Babu Singh @ Luthumba (25), and Laishram Boboi Meitei @ Boishemba (28). They engaged in extortion against members of the public, commercial companies, government representatives, and others. Three mobile phone goods were found in their possession,” the Manipur Police release said.

An active KCP (PWG) member, Sorokhaibam Inaoton Singh (38), from RIMS Main Gate, Lamphel, was taken into custody by Manipur Police on March 9 along with a cell phone. He engaged in extortion from the people and government representatives in the Imphal region.

“On March 9, Manipur Police arrested an active member of KCP (PWG), one Shandham Romen Singh (39), along with incriminating eleven demand letters from Samurou, Imphal West district,” the police said in a statement.

Three active UPPK cadres were taken into custody by Manipur Police on March 9 from Langol Type-II, Imphal West. Ngangbam Nishan Meitei (24 years old), Ashangbam Manikanta Singh (37 years old), and Sorokhaibam Nganthoi Singh (23 years old) are the individuals that were detained. Through their tribunal, they engaged in unlawful trials and extortion from the general population. Three cell phones, two four-wheelers, and other random objects were found in their possession.

“On March 8, security forces apprehended one KYKL cadre identified as Mohen Takhellambam @Renyai (29) from Gate no 2 near BP 79 under Moreh-PS, Tengnoupal District,” the Manipur Police said in a statement.

Vehicles transporting necessities have been allowed to go along NH-2. To guarantee the free and secure passage of the vehicles, Manipur Police said that strict security measures are implemented in all susceptible areas and that a security escort is given in critical areas.

“A total of 109 checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and no one was detained by Police in connection with violations in different Districts of the State,” the police said in a statement.

The public has been warned by the police not to trust rumors and to be wary of bogus films and postings on social media. Additionally, they have asked everyone to promptly turn in stolen firearms, ammo, and explosives to the police or the closest security personnel.

“The public is urged not to trust rumors and to be wary of phony films. The Central Control room’s rumor-free number, 9233522822, can verify any distributions of erroneous movies, etc. Additionally, a lot of phony posts are making the rounds on social media. This serves as a warning that posting such a phony message on social media will result in legal action. The public is also urged to return the stolen weapons, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the closest security forces right away, according to Manipur Police.

Following a report from the state governor, Manipur was placed under President’s control on February 13. The Manipur Legislative Assembly’s powers will be transferred to Parliament, therefore suspending the state government’s authority, according to a proclamation made by the Union Home Ministry and published in the Indian Gazette.

After conflicts during a demonstration organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei people in the Scheduled Tribe category, violence broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 of last year.
