Major breakthrough in Biju Bhunia kidnapping and murder case in West Bengal
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained a fleeing suspect from Pune, Maharashtra, in a significant development in the West Bengal murder and kidnapping case of Bijoy Bhunia.
According to the NIA, Mohan Mondal was apprehended on Thursday in relation to the May 2023 case.
In the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, in the hamlet of Goramahal near Moyna, Bijoy Krishna Bhunia was abducted and murdered. After Mohan Mandal fled, non-bailable warrants were filed against him.
He is the third suspect in the case to be taken into custody; the other two, Suvendu Bhowmick and Naba Kumar Mondal, were taken into custody first.
Following the High Court of Calcutta’s directives in a ruling dated April 5, 2024, NIA took over the investigation from the Moyna police and registered the case.
According to NIA, the investigation is still ongoing in an attempt to identify the whole plot behind Bhunia’s kidnapping and murder as well as to apprehend the other fugitives.
