On the second day of the winter session of Parliament, the lower chamber was already adjourned till 12:00 in the afternoon. Sitting in the chair, BJP MP Dilip Saikia declared that the lower house had been postponed for the day till November 28 at 11:00 AM after the passage of Union Minister Jitendra Singh’s motion.

Following notifications from opposition MPs to submit an adjournment motion in both the lower and higher chambers to debate Manipur, the Adani indictment, and the continuing unrest in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, this action was taken.

Prior to the start of today’s session, Congress MPs Manickam Tagore and Manish Tewari filed a motion in the Lok Sabha requesting an adjournment.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore said in a letter sent to the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha today, “I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house to discuss a definite matter of urgent importance.”

In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manish Tewari also requested a debate on the “Impact on India as a business destination and the robustness of our regulatory and oversight processes, following two indictments in the United States against the Adani conglomerate.” He also sent out a notice of postponement.

Demanding a debate on the “deteriorating condition” in Manipur, Congress MP Hibi Eden filed an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. According to Hibi Eden’s warning, the government should “take accountability and implement immediate measures to restore peace and justice.”

“I hereby give notice under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to move the following motion for the suspension of business listed for November 27, 2024,” said Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala in a notice on the same topic in the Rajya Sabha. In order to address the alarming disclosures in a US court indictment that the Adani Group bribed state officials in order to get power supply deals via SECl bids, this House suspends all planned proceedings.

On November 25, the winter Parliament’s first session began, but because of interruptions, both Houses were adjourned somewhat early. The winter session is scheduled to conclude on December 20.
