Lok Sabha adjourned till 11 am on December 9 as part of the winter session of Parliament
The Speaker said on Friday that the Lok Sabha, which is a part of the Parliament’s Winter Session, will be postponed till 11:00 am on December 9.
For the ninth straight day of the winter session, disruptions persisted as opposition members raised slogans and caused a commotion over a number of controversial subjects, forcing the lower house’s proceedings to be delayed until 12 pm earlier in the day.
As opposition protesters once again interrupted Friday’s winter session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla made a passionate plea for collaboration and order.
Birla emphasized the need of upholding the honor and decorum of Parliament prior to adjourning the House for the day.
The disturbances continued even after he repeatedly asked for cooperation. “I want you to cooperate during the question hour,” Birla said. If not—” he said, adjourning the meeting till Friday at noon.
Opposition parties have been noisily demanding discussions on a number of urgent matters, causing numerous disruptions throughout the winter session.
KC Venugopal, a Lok Sabha MP, said that the administration was taking a bulldozing stance in the legislature.
“The administration is using a bulldozing strategy to stifle the opposition’s movement. One of the MPs made a very disparaging statement against LoP and another House of Congress party member yesterday. Outside of parliament, another member made a disparaging remark. A privilege motion has been filed by the Congress party against both leaders. The same member is permitted to act in the same manner today even though we are filing a complaint against them for their disparaging statements. The administration is putting all of its pressure on the speaker,” he said.
According to Gaurav Gogoi, the administration was avoiding the Adani problem because they were scared to talk about it.
“The BJP is not interested in controlling the legislature. We filed a privilege petition against Sambit Patra and Nishikant Dubey, both BJP MPs. We were hoping for a decision from the speaker today, but the question hour was postponed. The individual who was the target of the privilege motion was once again allowed to speak in parliament. This is a plot to prevent the parliament from operating. They are fleeing from the Adani problem because they are afraid of it,” he added.
At the Parliament grounds in the nation’s capital on Friday, opposition MPs, including Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest over the Adani issue. To express their anger over the Adani problem, opposition MPs donned masks that said, “Modi Adani, Bhai Bhai.” A copy of the Constitution was also seen in the hands of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.
Following a commotion over the opposition’s demand to examine the Adani indictment, both chambers had short sessions last week.
The Adani Group refuted the accusations against Adani Green directors filed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Department of Justice. The BJP, however, criticized Congressman Rahul Gandhi for his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the legislation would work itself out.
On November 25, the winter Parliament’s first session began, but because to interruptions, both Houses were adjourned somewhat early. The winter session is scheduled to conclude on December 20.
