Leader Kunal Ghosh attacked CBI over bail to RG Kar former principal Sandeep Ghosh
Kolkata: After a West Bengal court granted bail to former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh in connection with the Kolkata rape and murder case, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh took aim at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday.
The CBI’s “inability to establish a strong case” was what Ghosh called it, calling it a “baseless case with distorted information.”
Ghosh told ANI, “Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect, was taken into custody by Kolkata Police in less than a day. The public’s anti-government sentiment favored the CBI taking up the case. We are learning more about Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal now that the matter is with the CBI. This lawsuit was unfounded and included false information intended to discredit the government.
“Not even the CBI was able to prove the case. They were given bail since the CBI was unable to establish their participation in the rape case,” he said.
Agnimitra Paul, a BJP politician, has already criticized the CBI for taking so long to file the chargesheet in the case.
Paul said the way the probe was handled was “unfortunate and shameful.” She also promised the victim’s family of the BJP’s steadfast support and questioned the intentions of certain CBI personnel.
“It is very unfortunate and quite shameful,” Paul told ANI. The way the Abhaya matter is being handled has us furiously agitated. What objective these few CBI officials have is unknown to me. Why aren’t they turning in the chargesheet on time?
“This is not an ordinary case,” she said, emphasizing the matter’s significance. Ten crore people in the state are looking at it. The court had promised Abhaya’s parents that they may file an appeal if they believed the CBI was not handling the issue correctly.
“West Bengal BJP stands with the parents of Abhaya, and we will do whatever is required,” Paul said, assuring the family of the BJP’s unwavering support. We won’t put up with this.”
Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar, and Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of Tala police station, were released on bail after the mother of the dead trainee doctor expressed dissatisfaction with the CBI’s inability to submit a chargesheet within ninety days.
“We are very disappointed that CBI did not file the chargesheet in 90 days,” she told ANI in reference to the delay. Those individuals were granted bail because the CBI was ineffective. This is very disheartening.
After the CBI failed to deliver the chargesheet within the legal time, the Sealdah Court granted bail on Friday.
Widespread demonstrations were triggered by the case, which includes the rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose corpse was discovered in the hospital’s lecture room on August 9. Sanjay Roy, a hospital civic volunteer, was taken into custody in relation to the crime shortly after it happened.
On November 29, however, the CBI submitted a chargesheet pertaining to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s financial violations. Sandip Ghosh was mentioned in the chargesheet for financial malfeasance, along with Dr. Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan. The Calcutta High Court ordered this probe.
Sandip Ghosh was questioned about the murder case in addition to the corruption case. He was put through polygraph examinations by the CBI as part of their probe.
The primary suspect in the rape and murder, Sanjay Roy, refuted the accusations made against him. On November 11, he made the following accusation from a police van: “I am telling you that Vineet Goyal, a former Kolkata Police Commissioner, planned the whole incident (the rape and murder of the resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College) and set me up. There were other high-ranking policemen involved, and they had threatened me.
