KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP condemns arrest of party MLA PV Anwar
Thiruvananthapuram: The arrest of party MLA PV Anvar was denounced by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President K Sudhakaran MP, who claimed that a “high-level political conspiracy” was responsible.
“He is an MLA and a public servant. He is not a criminal on the run. The cops were too quick to take him into custody. The police, including party secretary MV Govindan, were among those who were reluctant to file a complaint that day when the road was closed and a stage was constructed in conjunction with the CPIM conference. “It is evident that there is a high-level political conspiracy behind the arrest of Anvar if the police’s lack of sincerity at the time was demonstrated,” Sudhakaran said in a statement.
Ramesh Chennithala, a Congress politician, also denounced the arrest of PV Anvar, a party MLA, as “state terrorism.”
In relation to the forest law problem, the police arrested PV Anvar by encircling his home at night, which is consideredstate terrorism.’
There was no need to surround his home and take him into custody at night. He won’t go someplace to hide. It is not a major problem to encircle his home and take him into custody at night for vandalizing public property,” Chennithala said in a statement.
Anvar’s arrest would always be a black mark on the Kerala Police’s record, Chennithala said.
“This episode demonstrates the most repulsive aspect of government-sponsored terrorism after previous political disputes. In the statement, Chennithala continued, “This will continue to be a stain on the history of the Kerala Police.”
During a demonstration over the death of a tribal man who was mauled by an elephant in the Karulai forest, MLA Anvar was detained on Sunday for reportedly damaging the Nilambur Divisional Forest Office. Anvar has been placed in Tavanoor prison and placed under 14 days of judicial detention by the Nilambur magistrate.
After he and his followers marched in protest to the Nilambur Divisional Forest Office and reportedly caused damage to public property, Anvar was arrested.
Under the non-bailable provision, police have filed a charge against MLA PV Anvar and eleven other people for destroying public property and interfering with police officers’ ability to do their jobs.
Anvar’s followers had congregated outside his home, blocking the entry, and police had previously tried to arrest him. Due to the circumstances, there were several police officers in front of the MLA’s residence.
The Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly authorized the deployment of several police officers in front of Anvar’s residence.
In front of a sizable audience, police apprehended Anvar, and after his arrest, his fans sang chants in favor of him.
Anvar has been critical of the Kerala administration, especially Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and was formerly an ally of the Left Democratic Front. He accused the chief minister’s aides in September 2024 of stealing stolen gold and tapping phones.
Independent lawmaker PV Anvar accused ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar and the chief minister’s political secretary, P Sasi, of engaging in phone tapping of journalists and ministers back in September 2024. Anvar has also charged IPS officer Sujith Das S and MR Ajithkumar with embezzlement of confiscated gold.
