The NCW investigation found gaps in infrastructure, security provisions and efforts to look into the rape and killing of a 31 year old internee within a government hospital located in Kolkata.

24-hour nationwide IMA strike against Kolkata murder and rape case
As per an official statement released by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), medical doctors practicing modern medicine will observe a complete withdrawal of services from 6 AM Saturday August 17 to Sunday August 18 at 6 am.
This was after IMA called for a strike following recent demonstrations in Kolkata protesting against the rape and killing of a medical student at RG Kar Medical College.
According to an official statement issued by IMA, there would be no regular OPDs/OPDNs/ELECTIVE SURGERIES in hospitals across India for these 24 hours. But other essential services will continue uninterrupted.
