Know everything about how gangster Lawrence Bishnoi spends his day in Sabarmati jail

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi: The recent murder of Baba Siddique, an NCP politician and former Maharashtra minister, in Mumbai has shocked the nation and brought attention to Lawrence Bishnoi, a 31-year-old infamous thug who is presently serving a sentence in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Jail.

The murder has been attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which begs the disturbing issue of how a prisoner under strict guard could plan a crime of this magnitude.

Sabarmati Jail sources provide an image of Lawrence Bishnoi that seems inconsistent with his violent past. He is said to have a rigorous schedule that includes exercising and praying first thing in the morning, eating mostly fruit, and keeping two silent fasts a week in addition to a nine-day fast during Navratri.

But this show of religiosity conceals the truth of his imprisonment. Lawrence Bishnoi is kept in the old jail’s high security area, which is designated for “high-risk” prisoners. He lives in this part in a barrack meant for 40–50 inmates by himself. It is constantly watched over by CCTV and is guarded by jail officers, members of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and members of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). His movements are limited, and he receives direct delivery of any necessary things.

After being arrested by the ATS in April 2023 on suspicion of drug-related charges that were subsequently turned over to the NIA, Bishnoi’s current stay in Sabarmati started in August 2023. After a temporary transfer to another facility, the NIA brought him back to Sabarmati, where he is still kept today.

A product of the gangster-terror network nexus, Lawrence Bishnoi has been implicated by the NIA in a number of high-profile crimes, including the smuggling of weapons and ammunition from Pakistan and his connections to the terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International, which is outlawed.

Lawrence Bishnoi continues to carry out his plan in many states, particularly in the North and Western regions of India, with the help of a sizable gang of henchmen and sharpshooters, despite the NIA making great strides in breaking up his criminal network.

The NIA charged Bishnoi with terrorism last year in an attempt to break up the gangster-terrorist network connected to the Babbar Khalsa International. The chargesheet described his illegal operations, including the smuggling of heroin, guns, and explosives from Pakistan.

According to the anti-terror agency, Bishnoi had a key role in arranging the routes of communication that allowed gang members, including those who were imprisoned, to connect with each other without any problems.

According to the NIA, Bishnoi was part of an extortion ring headed by Canadian thug Goldy Brar, who is closely associated with the pro-Khalistan terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

Pradeep Kumar, a supporter of Dera Sacha Sauda, was killed in Faridkot in November 2022, and Goldy Brar is charged with his murder.

According to NIA investigations, the RPG attack on the Punjab State Intelligence headquarters in Mohali, the state’s capital, in May 2023, was also carried out on the orders of BKI terrorist Harwinder Singh, also known as Rinda, who is based in Pakistan. The attack was carried out by the terror-crime-extortion syndicate led by Lawrence Bishnoi.

In connection with the Gujarat Police’s September 2022 seizure of almost 39 kg of heroin, the NIA had also filed a chargesheet against Bishnoi.

Four homes held by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate have also been attached by the agency. Under the terms of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, NIA teams in Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh attached the properties—three of which were immovable and one of which was movable—in a coordinated raid.

According to reports, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is active in many areas, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. It consistently seeks to enlist impressionable young people.
