Kharge will send a letter to President Murmu regarding the situation in Manipur: Jairam Ramesh
Congress politician Jairam Ramesh said on Tuesday that Mallikarjun Kharge, the Party’s president, would write President Droupadi Murmu a letter on the severe situation in Manipur shortly.
Mallikarjun Kharge was visited at his home today by Congress officials, including Manipur Congress MP Bimol Akoijam, Manipur party Chief K Meghachandra Singh, and Jairam Ramesh.
“We had a meeting with our Congress President today,” Jairam Ramesh told the reporters after the meeting. The president of Congress will write to the president on the existing state of affairs in due time. The India Bloc will convene when the Parliament session starts, and we shall decide what steps we can all do together.”
“The NPP no longer supports it. The prime minister will not visit Manipur. There, the situation is really sensitive. Violence may erupt at any moment. We are aware of Manipur’s suffering. The PM should visit and get to know the locals. The Congress leader went on, “I believe the Home Minister is to blame for this.”
Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a Congress MP from Inner Manipur, said that the state’s circumstances are dire.
“It’s an awful scenario. Things may have been resolved by the administration of India’s decisive steps and the way the administration has ignored the state. Our party president is under pressure from me, and you should always seek advice from your top brass. He informed the reporters, “They (government) are unable to do their job.”
“There are thousands of Central Armed police officers and two Army divisions there, but what is missing are not soldiers but rather political will and honesty. When it comes to addressing state concerns, the Indian government is lacking these two elements, the Congress MP said.
Additionally, he said that the opposition must continue to express their concerns and pressure the government to act morally.
“The president will meet with our party president, who will discuss our concerns with her. I will share my thoughts on the nation in Parliament, particularly the tragedy that the state’s citizens have been experiencing over the last 18 months. “I’ll try my hardest,” Akoijam said.
On Monday, a number of Manipur MLAs issued a resolution outlining their demands, one of which was for the federal government to examine the state’s implementation of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA).
An extension of the temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services in the territories of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, and Churachandpur was announced by the Manipur government on Monday.
The suspension will last until Wednesday, November 20 at 5:15 p.m.
