Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan slams Sree Narayana Guru for being a supporter of “Sanatana Dharma”
Thiruvananthapuram: The “organized effort” to present social reformer and spiritual guru Sree Narayana Guru “as the advocate and proponent of Sanatana Dharma” has drawn criticism from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
According to the Chief Minister, Guru was a great guru who broke with the strict framework of Sanatana Dharma and established a new, contemporary dharma.
“A concerted attempt is being made to present Sree Narayana Guru as the champion and defender of Sanatana Dharma. However, Vijayan said at the 92nd Sivagiri Pilgrimage’s inauguration in Varkala on Tuesday that the Guru was neither a supporter nor an advocate of Sanatana Dharma.
“Instead, he was a great sage who transcended it, dismantling its rigid framework and proclaiming a new-age dharma suited for modern times,” he said.
Sanatana Dharma, the Chief Minister said, is really Varnashrama Dharma, which was contested by “Guru’s new-age humanitarian dharma.”
“What does Sanatana Dharma imply? It is the Varnashrama Dharma, that’s all. “This Varnashrama system was challenged and transcended by Guru’s new-age humanitarian dharma, which adapted to modern needs,” he stated.
“The limits of any religion did not define this dharma. Until then, did any religion declare that a person’s goodness alone, independent of their beliefs, was sufficient? No. Did any religion declare that all faiths have the same fundamentals? “No,” he continued.
Guru’s “universal vision of humanity” went across religious boundaries, the Chief Minister said.
Therefore, it is evident that the Guru maintained a global understanding of people that went beyond religious boundaries and embraced the very best of mankind. “It would be a serious insult to Guru’s legacy to confine such a vision within the parameters of Sanatana principles,” he remarked.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, “Sanatana Dharma” “should be eradicated” and was previously portrayed negatively. The BJP accused him of assaulting Hinduism, which sparked a major political uproar.
