J&K: Rashtriya Rifles Battalion conducts comprehensive training session for Village Defence Committee members
J&K: In Balnoi village in Poonch’s Mendhar block, the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, part of the counter-insurgency unit “Romeo,” arrived to conduct a thorough training session for members of the Village Defence Committee (VDC).
The training, which took place on Sunday in Balnoi, included thorough lessons on how to maintain the recently issued self-loading rifles (SLR). VDC members received information on grievance redressal and the tactics used by local terrorist organizations.
Additionally, the trainees were given practical instruction in cleaning weapons and doing small repairs.
The Rashtriya Rifles Battalion’s gathering for VDC members also provided an open arena for casual conversation, encouraging debates on the current security landscape.
The training was attended by 43 VDC members, and it was well received. The purpose of this effort was to strengthen regional defense capacities at the local level.
In the meanwhile, since early December 2024, a strange sickness has been spreading havoc in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 16 people and infecting 38 more.
The Indian Army has been dispatched to the region to provide the locals access to basic necessities including food, water, and shelter.
One resident, Md. Bashir, expressed gratitude to the army for their assistance, saying, “The army has been deployed here and is providing us with rations, tents, and essential supplies.” For four to five days, they are providing us with food, drink, and assistance. We appreciate their assistance throughout this trying time.
The illness’s etiology is still unclear despite the efforts of organizations and medical professionals. The medical teams in the district are keeping a careful eye on the situation, and the State Health Department teams are performing door-to-door surveillance in Badhal village. Residents are told not to panic by the medical authorities.
The government of Jammu and Kashmir has also taken action, as shown by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary’s visit to the impacted region and announcement of ex gratia compensation for the relatives of the slain. The reason for the fatalities is being looked into by the police.
