J&K: Anantnag police seize property worth Rs 75 lakh in ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking

Anantnag: Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Anantnag Police in Jammu and Kashmir attached assets valued around Rs 75 lakhs belonging to two well-known drug peddlers as part of their continuous operation against drug trafficking.

An official announcement claims that the police attached a cement-concretized plinth along with one kanal of land belonging to Tariq Ahmad Lone, son of Mohd Maqbool Lone, a Satkipora resident. Acting under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, valued at about Rs 60 lakhs, the property was found to have been obtained illegally by narcotics trafficking. Originally filed at Police Station Srigufwara, the accused is implicated in FIR No. 48/2019 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

Police Station Bijbehara separately attached commercial stores run by Gulzar Ahmad Rather, son of Gh. Rasool Rather, Waghama inhabitant. Attached under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, recorded at Police Station Bijbehara, the attachment connected with FIR No. 227/20. Valued at Rs 15 lakhs, the property turned out to be the result of drug-related activity.

“These strict policies underline the strong will of Anantnag Police to eradicate the drug threat and destroy the financial systems sustaining illegal drug activity. The police added in a statement that the public should help law enforcement authorities by reporting any drug-related activity, thereby guaranteeing a safer and drug-free society.

Early on Wednesday, Chinar Warriors, working with Jammu and Kashmir police, found and detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on the “critical” line of communication along the Bandipora-Srinagar route.

“ChinarWarriors, in a joint operation with @JmuKmrPolice today, averted a major terror incident, which would have threatened the innocent lives of Kashmiri citizens, by recovering and destroying an IED on the critical line of communication along Bandipora-Srinagar Road, Aragam,” Chinar Corps, Indian Army, said in a post on X on Wednesday.

“The LED was surgically handled and eliminated, thereby underscoring the dedication of our security staff, always devoted to the welfare of the people. The Army said, “The Indian Army is adamant in its will to keep Kashmir terror-free.”
