Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police achieved noteworthy achievements in 2024, including the neutralization of 14 foreign terrorists, the dismantling of 13 terror modules, and a significant crackdown on overground workers (OGWs), in terms of improving security and reducing crime throughout the Jammu zone.
According to an official announcement from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, 14 foreign terrorists were eliminated in 2024, marking advancements in security and crime management in the Jammu zone. Thirteen terror modules, including Rajouri (1), Poonch (2), Udhampur (3), Reasi (1), Doda (4), and Kathua (2), were dismantled around the area. According to the police news statement, the networks trying to undermine regional peace and security suffered a serious setback with the elimination of these international terrorists.
The statement said that the police continued to clamp down heavily on overground workers (OGWs) and exert continuous pressure on anti-national elements. In all, 827 people were targeted, up from 282 the year before, and 180 people were arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA), up from 168 in 2023.
There were 476 NDPS instances reported this year. Notable seizures included 33 kg and 58 grams of heroin from the Jammu bus station area in August and 9 kg and 990 grams of heroin retrieved from the LOC region in the Nowshera Sector in April, which resulted in many arrests. According to the statement, 84 NDPS-related instances in 2024 resulted in the seizure or freezing of property worth substantial sums; nine of these cases were verified by SAFEMA, the appropriate body.
In the area of general crime, the Jammu zone saw a notable drop in the registration of criminal cases in 2024 (13,163) as compared to the previous year (15,774), according to the J-K Police statement. Police officers’ unwavering efforts to uphold law and order and guarantee public safety across the area are responsible for this encouraging trend.
With the exception of motor vehicle thefts, property theft instances decreased from 1,321 in 2023 to 944 in 2044, with stolen items valued at Rs 14.18 crore, down from Rs 18.75 crore the year before. Additionally, the number of motor vehicle theft instances decreased from 653 to 507, and the total value of the stolen cars decreased from Rs 7.05 crore in 2023 to Rs 6.53 crore. The car theft recovery rate was 47.48%, which was somewhat higher than the 2023 estimate of 47.38%. The number of incidents of cattle smuggling also dropped dramatically, from 2,600 in 2023 to 1,770 in 2024. According to the statement, proactive police tactics, community involvement programs, and enhanced crime prevention methods have all made a substantial contribution to this favorable result.
The statement said that the opening of the Drug De-addiction Center in Jammu was one of the major programs started to combat drug usage. With its state-of-the-art facilities and medical team that includes psychologists, counselors, and medical specialists, the new institution provides patients with programs for skill development, reintegration, detoxification, and counseling.
In order to address incidents of online fraud and cybercrime, 67 police officers received specialized training in cybercrime management. This project is a component of the operationalization of ten cyber cells in each of the Jammu Zone’s districts.
Authorities’ multidimensional strategy, which included increased surveillance, strategic operations, and community involvement programs, is credited with launching these forward-thinking initiatives. According to the police, this also shows how well the zone works to combat criminal activity and make the area safer for its residents.
