IndiGo Airlines on Thursday apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused on its Delhi-Varanasi flight
NEW DELHI : IndiGo Airlines has expressed regret for the suffering that its Thursday Delhi-Varanasi flight caused its passengers, as the aircraft became very hot due to a failing air conditioning system. The extreme temperatures caused numerous people to apparently faint, resulting in a chaotic scene.
Passengers aboard Flight 6E 2235, which was traveling from Delhi to Varanasi, were quite uncomfortable due to the cabin’s large temperature swings.
A widely circulated video of the event on social media showed travelers using in-flight magazines as fans while others looked to be having trouble with the heat. There were reports of several people passing out.
IndiGo released a statement on Saturday in reaction to the circumstances, stating, “We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on September 5, 2024.”

“Changes in the cabin temperature were made in response to passenger demands, which was why there was discomfort. The statement further said that “Our cabin crew immediately provided assistance to the affected passengers.”
Such a problem has already arisen with IndiGo. Similar circumstances happened on the airline’s Delhi-Bagdogra trip in June 2024, when the air conditioning stopped functioning for over an hour, leaving passengers—especially the elderly—gasping for breath. Older travelers had respiratory problems from asphyxia, and irate travelers claimed they were being “hijacked.”
Following that occurrence, IndiGo released a statement blaming the fault on the aircraft’s inability to operate due to high ground temperatures.
