Indian Navy deployed a specialised rescue team to assist in the rescue of trapped miners at Umrangso, Dima Hasao district, Assam
To assist with the recovery of miners who are stranded in Umrangso, a distant industrial town in the Dima Hasao region of Assam, the Indian Navy has sent out a specialist rescue squad.
Eleven sailors and one officer make up the Navy crew, which includes highly skilled clearance divers, according to reports. These divers are qualified for the challenging rescue effort at hand because of their expertise in deep-depth diving and recovery procedures. The crew is actively supporting local authorities in the operation and has already arrived at the location.
In the meanwhile, one death has been found in the 3 Kilo, Umrangso, coal mine collapse where nine men were trapped on January 6.
One corpse has been discovered by the Indian army’s NDRF divers, an NDRF spokesperson said in a statement.
Nine miners were trapped in a coal mine in the 3 Kilo region of Umrangso, Dima Hasao, and the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other organizations started their combined rescue effort early this morning.
With a larger crew, the activities are ongoing 24/7, according to NDRF Deputy Commandant N. Tiwari. The combined Army and NDRF personnel are operating on the ground, he said, and the Navy is anticipated to provide help in the next few hours.
The combined rescue team’s challenges were previously discussed by HPS Kandari, Commandant of the 1st Battalion of the NDRF. Kandari said, “We made many efforts yesterday, but we were unsuccessful. We retrieved one corpse from a combined team’s dive in the mine today.
The dangerous circumstances beneath have presented several obstacles for rescue personnel since the mine collapse, which trapped many miners. Specialized help is now being sought from diving professionals. “Diving in other places is another thing, but in these situations, we need experts as we cannot guesstimate what conditions would be there inside,” Kandari said, highlighting the risks and uncertainty of the operation. The rescue operation may be hampered by a variety of mining equipment.
