Indian Army and Police recover arms and ammunition from 4 districts of Manipur in successful joint operations

Imphal: According to an official statement, the Indian Army, in conjunction with the police and other security forces, conducted a number of successful combined operations that resulted in the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and warlike supplies from the hill and valley areas of four districts in Manipur, including Churchandpur.

“In a series of successful joint operations, the Indian Army, in coordination with Manipur Police and other security forces, recovered 12 weapons, ammunition and warlike stores from both hill and valley regions in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churchandpur and Tengnupal in Manipur,” the release read.

Carbine machine guns, single-barrel rifles, AKs, pistols, grenades, ammunition, and warlike supplies have been recovered as a result of intelligence-based operations conducted by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the general areas of Mongjang village in Churachandpur district on January 11 and Phayeng Hill in Kangpokpi district on January 13; Nepali Basti, Zero Point-P1 Railway Site Road, 6 km north of Kotlen village, Kangpokpi district on January 14; and Salam Patong village and Waithou in Thoubal district on January 14.

“The weapons and other items recovered in the joint operations have been handed over to Manipur Police,” the press statement said.

Following a demonstration by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3, 2023, in response to the Manipur High Court’s judgment instructing the state to consider adding the Meitei group to the Scheduled Tribes list, violence broke out between the Kuki and Meitei tribes in Manipur.

In Churachandpur district, the Assam Rifles had earlier on January 16 arrested two individuals and seized a huge stash of prohibited Yaba pills and brown sugar valued at over Rs 62 crore.

Chingsen (36 years old) and L Pausuanlal Simte (38 years old) were the people that were captured.
