India Bloc MPs protest inside Parliament premises on Adani impeachment issue for second consecutive day
For the second consecutive day, members of the India bloc demonstrated outside the Parliament building near Makar Dwar on Wednesday about the Adani indictment.
Several banners and inscriptions expressing the protesting MPs’ desire for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the Adani case were hoisted.
Rahul Gandhi of the Lok Sabha, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress Wayanad, and a number of other opposition MPs are on their way to Sambhal, which is rife with violence. However, police officers at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway’s Ghazipur border have halted them.
Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress MP, had earlier in the day sought an adjournment motion notice in the lower house, calling for a debate on the Adani issue.
The motion notice demanded an immediate discussion of the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) “silence” in the face of grave accusations against the Adani Group, which the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and US Department of Justice (DoJ) have charged with securities fraud and bribery.
Since protests and demonstrations in front of Parliament’s gates seriously impede members’ ability to proceed to the Parliament Chambers during House sessions, the Lok Sabha Secretariat asked members of the House yesterday to refrain from doing so.
Dramatic events occurred in Parliament yesterday as representatives of the INDIA group protested outside the building and called for a hearing on the Adani charge.
To express their displeasure with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s response about the Minimum Support Price (MSP) problem, opposition MPs headed by the Congress left the lower chamber of parliament.
Since the start of the Winter Session, parliament has been at a standstill due to unrest in Manipur and Sambhal, as well as rallies by opposition parties over the Adani issue.
The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were adjourned until noon on Monday and subsequently for the remainder of the day. November 25 marked the start of Parliament’s winter session, which will last until December 20.
