In Shimla, men will also be required to pay a fee to use public restrooms
Shimla: On Monday, the Shimla Municipal Corporation made the decision to charge males Rs 5 for using the city’s public restrooms. The decision was made during the corporation’s monthly House meeting.
In the past, males could use restrooms for free, but only women were charged to use public restrooms.
According to authorities, the money will be collected in around 30 public restrooms with a lot of traffic.
According to the corporation, males will now pay Rs 5 to use urinals, which were previously free.
Additionally, the organization intends to provide monthly cards to local merchants and store owners so they may use the public restrooms. In order to use the public facilities, dealers and shops would need to pay between Rs 100 and Rs 150 each month.
Surender Chauhan, the mayor of Shimla’s Municipal Corporation, said that the fees would be used for upkeep and to guarantee the hygienic conditions of the designated restrooms.
A framework for carrying out this decision is being established, he added.
Chauhan went on to say that there would be more meetings in the future and that public recommendations would be considered.
“Only those public restrooms that receive a high volume of daily visitors will be charged,” he said.
Additionally, he said that while the organization would charge for toilet upkeep, it would not impose a toilet tax.
