Around 1000 visitors and other cars were stranded in Solang Nala today, December 27, 2024, as a result of the recent snowstorm. These vans carried around 5,000 visitors. Kullu Police have rescued the cars and visitors and transported them to secure locations. Kullu police said on X that the rescue effort was still ongoing.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Friday that Himachal Pradesh will continue to experience cold waves and heavy snowfall.

On December 27 and 28, the IMD issued an orange signal for cold waves and snowfall throughout the state.

Six districts in Himachal Pradesh—Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Kinnaur—have had significant snowfall and rainfall.

A fresh cold wave is predicted to affect the plains, especially the districts of Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Una, starting on December 29. It is anticipated that these regions, as well as Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba, would experience extreme cold until January 1.

On January 1, dense fog is also predicted in a few isolated areas, which may make visibility even worse and make traveling more difficult.

On Friday, the temperature in Shimla city was around 5°C, and on December 28, it is predicted to slightly increase. On the other hand, a considerable decrease in minimum temperatures is anticipated from December 29.

Residents and visitors are encouraged by the IMD to exercise care and adopt the appropriate safety measures, particularly in areas impacted by snow, where road closures and other interruptions are likely to occur.

The state is preparing for a difficult weather phase in the days ahead due to the increasing snowfall and extreme cold.
