GMC takes a significant step in cancer management by unveiling cancer policy for Jammu and Kashmir UT

Jammu: By releasing the Cancer Policy for Jammu and Kashmir UT on Tuesday, Jammu Government Medical College (GMC) made a major step in the fight against cancer. According to a statement from the hospital, GMC Jammu’s principal, oncologist Ashutosh Gupta, created the policy.

Following this, the Govt Medical College in Jammu hosted a one-day national CME in which leading oncologists from all across the nation took part. Among them were prominent physicians Dr. Anusheel Munshi from Delhi, Dr. Vijay Patil from Mumbai, Dr. Vimal Pandita from Dehradun, Dr. Dipenjan Panda from Apollo Hospital Delhi, and Dr. Rakesh Jalali from Apollo Hospital Chennai.

The aforementioned National CME was attended by almost 500 delegates from both within and outside the state.

During his speech, Farooq Abdullah said that the illness necessitates not only medical, surgical, and radiation treatment but also social, psychological, and economic factors.

“Such patients need to be treated with empathy and sympathy and further, he said to make communications with patients and address their every minor inquiry, which is very important and can establish trust amongst the doctors and the patients as well as their attendants,” stated Abdullah in the statement.

Additionally, in her speech, Ms. Sakeena Ittoo, Minister for Health and Medical Education Department, stated that the late Sheikh Abdullah laid the institution’s foundation stone in 1982 and that the family has made significant contributions to the state’s advancement as well as the medical community and the fraternity.

“The government is committed to achieving medical excellence at par with the premier institution of the country,” she said.

She commended the present GMC Jammu administration for their several initiatives aimed at improving patient care.

The events of the aforementioned inauguration ceremony were also seen by the different professors, postgraduate residents, MBBS students, paramedical personnel, related staff, and administrative teams.

The cancer policy’s principles are laid out in Principal Dr. Ashutosh Gupta’s inauguration presentation, which also greets all the guests on and off the stage and explains GMC, Jammu’s roadmap and future vision.

According to the policy, efficient cancer screening procedures must be established for avoidable malignancies, including those of the head and neck, breast, lung, cervical, prostate, and colon.

highlighting the need for tertiary care institutions such as SKIMS, GMC Jammu, and GMC Srinagar to have all the latest cancer equipment, including high-end molecular oncology laboratories, surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and diagnostic tools like PET scans.

All district hospitals should provide palliative care services, and all tobacco products should be restricted or outlawed.

Farooq Abdullah, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir; Sakina Massod Itoo, the honorable minister of HME, school education, higher education & social welfare; Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, secretary of HME; Dr. Sameer Kaul, an Indian cancer specialist; Dr. Ashraf Ganie, director of SKIMS; and Dr. Pavan Malhotra, principal of ASCOMS, were present when the cancer policy was announced.
